What technique should I use for nail enhancement?

There are different methods of nail laying or kind of false nails. It should be noted that nail enhancement is a technique of beautification that consists of covering nails with different materials such as resin, acrylic, gel or polygel.

1. The resin nail application

The resin is a liquid glue that does not harden in the open air. It therefore needs a catalyst to apply to the nail to solidify it. That’s why it is associated with powder that will help to solidify quickly and standardize the nail. This technique does not allow to lengthen the nail, for this it is associated with the installation of capsules. One of the great advantages of resin is that it dissolves in acetone to remove it. Unfortunately, its composition can damage the nail and its rendering is not always natural.

2. The acrylic nail application

This technique consists of mixing the acrylic powder with monomer liquid. This makes it possible to obtain a small soft ball which is then enough to apply on the nail and to work until the desired shape. With this technique, the nail is soft and very strong. Acrylic hardens in the open air. One type of acrylic powder that has gained a lot of interest lately is the dip powder.

"Dip powders are basically acrylic powder used in a different technique, however, it shouldn't smell like the standard acrylic,” celebrity manicurist Erica Marton told TODAY Style. “It's geared for nail techs that want to save time or beginner nail techs. It's an easier, faster way. Think of it as a diet acrylic.”

The process seemed pretty straight forward and simple. You start by buffing the surface of your nails, applying a primer coat and a base, and then dipping your nails one by one into the pigmented dip powder. Then you dip each finger again (so that each nail gets two coats of powder), brushed off excess powder with a brush and painted on a sealing top coat.

There are kits of dip powder sold that allows anyone to DIY.

3. The laying of Polygel

Polygel is a hybrid between gel and acrylic, which allows you to get the best of both: no mix, very resistant and flexible. The rendering is shiny, more flexible, thinner and more natural. Nails can be the length and shape you want. The technique is quite simple, just apply a small ball of Polygel tube to the nail and work it to get the desired shape. The Polygel needs a UV/LED lamp to harden. This technique is ideal for all people who work a lot with their hands and who want nails with natural rendering.
